Clear answers on IVF
I help couples find out why pregnancy isn't happening, and what to do about it. Sometimes that means IVF. Often it means a few simple tests and a clear plan first. I see patients at Birla Fertility & IVF in Sector 14, Gurugram, where I lead the centre.

Dr. Prachi Benara trained at two of India's leading medical schools, Maulana Azad Medical College in New Delhi and B.J. Medical College in Ahmedabad, before moving into reproductive medicine. Her interest in IVF took her to the United Kingdom, where she trained with the British Fertility Society in IUI, fertility ultrasound and embryo transfer, and worked as an observer at Oxford University Hospitals.
Today she leads the Gurugram centre of Birla Fertility & IVF as Senior Consultant and Centre Head. Couples come to her at very different points: some are simply planning ahead, some have been trying for a while, and some have been through treatment before. Her approach stays the same for all of them. Find the real reason, explain it in plain words, and then build a plan that fits the couple, not a template.
Outside the clinic she runs a growing library of short videos on Instagram and YouTube, in English and Hindi, covering everything from egg reserve and folic acid to embryo glue and male fertility. You can watch a selection on the videos page, or read more about Dr. Prachi.

Women are born with all the eggs they will ever have, and both their number and quality fall with age. An early AMH and scan check lets you plan with facts, not guesswork.
Watch the explanation →Sleep, stress, nutrition, movement and avoiding smoking and excess caffeine all play a part. No habit is a guarantee, yet steady daily choices support every treatment.
Watch the explanation →Thalassemia carrier status often goes unnoticed in healthy adults. When both partners carry it, each pregnancy has a one-in-four chance of thalassemia major, so screening first is wise.
Watch the explanation →The baby's brain and spine form in the first few weeks, often before a test turns positive. Taking folic acid ahead of time, at the dose your doctor advises, protects that window.
Watch the explanation →Rubella is mild in adults but can harm a baby's hearing, heart and eyes during pregnancy. A simple IgG test shows whether you need the MMR vaccine before you start trying.
Watch the explanation →Smoking can damage sperm DNA even when the routine count and motility look fine. Male fertility deserves the same care and attention as female fertility.

A focused review of history, hormones, ovarian reserve, scans and semen analysis to find the real reason behind a delay.
Couples trying for a year (six months if 35 or older), or sooner if there is a known issue.
A consultation, blood tests such as AMH and thyroid, a pelvic ultrasound, semen analysis and, if needed, a tubal test.
Washed and prepared sperm is placed in the uterus at the time of ovulation. A gentle first step for many couples.
Mild male factor, unexplained infertility, ovulation problems or cervical factors, with at least one open tube.
Cycle monitoring with scans, sometimes mild ovulation medicine, then a quick procedure in the clinic that feels similar to a smear test.
Eggs are collected and fertilised in the laboratory, and an embryo is transferred to the uterus. ICSI injects a single sperm into each egg.
Blocked tubes, low egg reserve, severe male factor, endometriosis, or when simpler treatment has not worked.
About two weeks of hormone injections with monitoring, egg collection under sedation, lab fertilisation, then embryo transfer a few days later.
Options such as embryo glue, laser assisted hatching and sperm preparation techniques, offered only where they suit your case.
Selected situations such as repeated implantation failure or specific embryo or sperm findings.
A discussion of the evidence for your case first, so you only pay for what is likely to help.
Care for one of the most common causes of irregular periods and difficulty conceiving.
Irregular cycles, acne or excess hair growth, weight changes, or a scan showing polycystic ovaries.
Lifestyle guidance, cycle regulation and ovulation support, moving to IUI or IVF only if needed.
Preserving eggs at a younger age to keep the option of motherhood open for later.
Women who want to delay pregnancy, or before treatments such as chemotherapy that can affect fertility.
An AMH test and scan, about two weeks of injections, egg collection, then freezing by vitrification.
Nearly half of all cases involve a male factor, so both partners are assessed from the start.
Abnormal semen analysis, previous surgery, smoking or lifestyle concerns, or no clear female cause.
Semen analysis, lifestyle advice, treatment of reversible causes, and planning IUI or ICSI where needed.
A clear plan before you start trying, so pregnancy begins on the best footing.
Anyone planning a baby, especially after 30 or with a medical condition.
Screening such as thalassemia and rubella immunity, thyroid checks, vaccines, and starting folic acid.

Yes. She counsels women who want to preserve fertility for later and plans egg freezing after checking ovarian reserve with tests such as AMH and an ultrasound scan.
If you are under 35 and have been trying for 12 months without success, it is a good time for an assessment. If you are 35 or older, go after 6 months. Couples with irregular periods, PCOS, endometriosis, past pelvic surgery or a known male factor should seek advice sooner.
No. Many couples conceive with simpler options such as lifestyle changes, ovulation induction or IUI. IVF is suggested when tests show it gives the best chance, for example with blocked tubes, low egg reserve, severe male factor or after other treatments have not worked.
In IUI, washed sperm is placed directly in the uterus around ovulation, and fertilisation happens naturally inside the body. In IVF, eggs are collected and fertilised with sperm in the laboratory, and the embryo is then transferred to the uterus.
Common checks include a thalassemia carrier screen, rubella immunity (IgG), thyroid function, a blood count and, where needed, an ovarian reserve test such as AMH. Starting folic acid before conception is also advised. Your doctor will tailor the list to your history.
Yes. Smoking, alcohol, excess caffeine, poor sleep, high stress and very high or very low body weight can all affect egg and sperm health. Healthy habits cannot promise a pregnancy, but they support every form of treatment.
